Remote Desktop Over WAN Issues, Slow for “New Rendering” Style, Animated Gifs and Movies

RDP Client 6.0.6 has some serious slowness issues with connections over the WAN.

It seem liked this only happened previously with Animated GIFs, Large Images, Movies, which was bad enough, but now software like the Google Chrome start page and MSDN subscriber downloads render different, probably better than previous method of rendering but is dog slow over the WAN.

Weak Search Results in Outlook 2007, Searching For Contacts

Tried searching for “Young Punk’s Roofing”, couldn’t find it but “I knew it was there”, so what am I doing wrong?  I clear the search, find it, open it, copy the company name “Young Punks’s Roofing”, re-search and it is there; I then realized the Punks’s was the problem.

That’s “pretty” close though, I would except my computer to be able to figure that one out.

A another issue I’ve seen, which is a major user issue, is while searching it doesn’t tell you it is searching, worse yet there is a message about “Did you find what  you …” before it finishes searching so you really don’t have a way of knowing when it has finished searching.

Microsoft Connect Feedback – Hyperlinks in Posts, Duplicate Links

First problem is that posts entered by Microsoft and Connect Users are not posted into a HTML Hyperlinkable state:

(Sorry MSFT about the Google Chrome but there product is just currently significantly faster for me than IE, I hope that changes!)

Also in this connect issue the user reported something that had already been reported.  The MSFT rep, Sarah, notifies about the other connect issue which is good but now I want that information easiablely accessible like on top right with the Workarounds, User Count, etc:

Add a “Duplicates” feature.  Allow one Duplicate to be the “Primary” so if there are multiples I don’t have to track it down.

Error When Using “class” Constraint on a Typed Parameter; C# Generics

The following errors:

public class LinkedEntitySet<T, U, V> : IList<U>, IListSource
        where T : IParent<T>
        where U : IShared<U>
        where V : ILink<T, U>, class

The following doesn’t:

public class LinkedEntitySet<T, U, V> : IList<U>, IListSource
     where T : IParent<T>
     where U : IShared<U>
     where V : class, ILink<T, U>

Error recieved originally:

Error    1    The type ‘V’ must be a reference type in order to use it as parameter ‘TEntity’ in the generic type or method ‘System.Data.Linq.EntitySet<TEntity>’

Compile error with class after ILink<T, U>:

Error    1    The ‘class’ or ‘struct’ constraint must come before any other constraints

Visual Studio 2008 and Office Word 2007 Conflicts

I have Word documents attached to various projects but I have frequent lock up issues with the two of them open at the same time.  Last time this happened to me I ended Word, after 3 mins of waiting on save doc, and Visual Studio started to respond again.

General Steps to Cause Issue:

  1. Double click on a Word doc from the Solution Explorer
  2. Modify Doc
  3. Click Save in Word, at that point Word has a tendency to lock up

Workaround:

If I open Word doc via Explorer or Recent Docs in Word I don’t seem to have any trouble.

The Ant and The Grasshopper

The ant works hard in the withering heat all summer long, building his house and laying up supplies for the winter.

The grasshopper thinks the ant is a fool and laughs and dances and plays the summer away.

Come winter, the ant is warm and well fed.

The grasshopper has no food or shelter, so he dies out in the cold.
