Pull My Docs Out from under the Windows OS and See what Happens

  1. Redirect my documents (or Documents as of Vista I think) to a another harddrive than the OS.
  2. Remove this drive
    1. if it is a separate harddrive, turn the pc and unplug the data or power cable
    2. there would be other ways of achieving…

After the redirected path is not available

  • Open MSTSC – Remote desktop client – crashes
  • Open Live Writer, crashes
  • Open Jing, mine crashes, never tried on this PC but I suspect this is the reason
  • Try to redirect my documents back to a valid path now.    I couldn’t figure out how to do in Server 2K8 R2.  The only path I know is right click my documents, properties, location tab.  I’m sure it’s a reg key somewhere though.

Those are a few of the issues I’ve seen.

Hey SeaGate, What if I already have a X, Y and Z Drive?

Got a new 2TB Wifi NAS from Seagate.  Just installed 20 mins ago.

Of course the first time I tried to connect it couldn’t find the device.  I tried rebooting it.  Still no luck, gave up.

Came back to it 2 hrs later and it could now find the device, cool.

Then I try to figure out how it works and I find this:

Cool.. very cool, three drive letters by default, nice help for the user.

BUT WHAT IF I’M ALREADY USING THOSE DRIVE LETTERS?  Because I already am… doesn’t look like it was able to configure the device and assign it different drive letters.

Also, SeaGate, it is 2010 not 2001 so a Windows 2K Explorer screen print is weak and out of date.  Windows Vista or up.

Google Chrome, Send from Gmail Extension Doesn’t Always Work

Send from Gmail

I would say 15% of the time it doesn’t work and this is frustrating as it is an invaluable tool.

I get this and it never loads

I’ve never waited more than 20 secs in the past but when creating this post I got this:

I clicked the disable labs and it loaded!

I tried the extension again and it didn’t load.  After about 45 secs I got the “if that doesn’t work…” window again.  Clicking the disable labs did work.
