Directions on how to Change the Comment Font Size
1) Click the diagonal down right arrow in the styles group
2 & 3) Click Options in the Styles Pane and then change the first DropDown to All Styles, Click Ok
4) Find the Balloon Text Style, click the drop down (or right click) and then modify!

I have to add my name to the list of those who bless you (and curse microsoft). This wasn’t a simple formatting problem for me. Word had spontaneously reduced all my comments to 1 pt. font.

Thanks but it does not stick. The next document I open to edit and comment uses the original 8 point setting, not the 11 point I need to type and read it.
I did alter the pink background and that does stick.
Presumably there is yet another hidden step to make an option work for all documents.

Why are you applying the Balloon Text style???

Not only did this work for the problem of increasing the font size in balloon comments, but the instructions with the screen shots are so much better than any help I’ve ever seen with Microsoft (or any other products). The user can quickly see what has to be done, rather than search all over the screen for a tab, a drop down, a group or whatever. Microsoft should adopt this technique for all its help!
Secondly, the author made sure that the instructions would work no matter how you might have tailored your MS-Word so that the instructions would work for everyone. For example, making sure that you selected All Styles, since the default is to show only the recommended styles (or you might have changed it to something else). Otherwise, the Balloon Text style would not have been displayed as a choice.
